Zenag Chicken Factory Flooring
Zenag Chicken was started in 1946 by the Leahy Family – one of the first white farming families in the area. In the beginning, the business processed around 50 birds a week using a chest freezer powered by homemade hydropower supply. The successful commercial operation now produces 30 tonnes per day supplying whole and portioned birds to the retail sector.
According to Mr Stanley Leahy, PNG is exceptionally fortunate to be free of most of the world’s worst avian diseases. As a result however the country biosecurity standards are below par and the industry has been vocal about strengthening the country’s biosecurity policies.
The Challenge
To meet with the stringent control of HACCP and to reduce biosecurity risks, the whole of the Zenag Chicken plant required an upgrade. Everything from the ground up needed to be brought into line including equipment management systems and floor coatings. The flooring was aged & damp and needed to comply with Food Safe Standards.
The Solution
Working with Mr Stanley Leahy, Roxset upgraded over 1000sqm of floor coatings with the Roxset SE Solution at 6mm providing a seamless protective coating. Roxset was able to overcome all the challenges of moving more then 20 tonnes of material into the highlands and a large installation team from Australia.
Roxset met all the complex challenges of working in a remote humid, country with limited infrastructure. They delivered a truly exceptional result in managing all transport logistics and the installation was of the highest standard both in performance plus appeal – we are more than confident it will last us well into the future.
