Overview
Lyka’s rapid growth necessitated a new production facility to accommodate increasing order volumes and position operations closer to their customer base. The company secured a site in Wetherill Park, NSW, formerly operating as a commercial bakery. Roxset was engaged to support the operational reconfiguration of the flooring and drainage systems to suit the new building layout for Lyka’s production.
Challenges
Key flooring challenges Lyka faced for the project included:
- 1,200 square metres within the production area had to be completed during a four-day maintenance shutdown period.
- Floors were regraded to ensure correct falls toward drainage points, as wall relocations altered the original layout.
- Appropriate non-slip ratings were applied to individual rooms based on their operational requirements (e.g. wet or dry areas).

- Underfoot Safety: Safety was prioritised through the installation of highly durable, slip-resistant, food-grade flooring systems engineered for wet and heavy-use environments to align with Lyka’s high standards of human-grade food. The slip resistance rating will reduce the probability of incident risk while supporting regulatory compliance in critical processing areas.
Implementation
Working closely with Lyka Pet Food’s operations and maintenance teams, Roxset delivered the installation within the four-day shutdown window through carefully staged works to ensure production recommissioned on schedule, including:
- Flooring: 1200 SQM of Roxset SE3 5-6mm system
- Coving: @ 50mm & 75mm (heights) finished to aluminium arrowhead installed to all floor-to-wall junctions to create a seamless, hygienic finish suitable for heavy wash-down environments.
- Drainage & Compliance Upgrades: Adjustments to drainage points, thresholds and transitions to suit revised wall layouts, along with the application of fit-for-purpose slip-resistant finishes based on wet and dry zone requirements.
Outcomes
Roxset delivered the project within a critical shutdown window for Lyka. The project combined technical precision, regulatory compliance and operational efficiency to successfully transform the existing facility into a fit-for-purpose production environment for pet food. Through careful planning, expert installation and rigorous quality control, the upgraded flooring system now supports safe, hygienic and high-performance operations, aligning with Lyka’s commitment to producing human-grade, veterinarian-formulated meals at scale.
