No pie in the sky for Garlos

Garlo Pies was established in 2001 by former NRL player Sean Garlick his brother Nathan, a pastry cook and father Terry. It makes meat pies of all kinds, in 50 different flavours plus halal and kosher meat versions; plus they recently expanded into sweet pies and banana bread.

The company began as a small family run business with a 60sqm bakery in Maroubra Sydney. After steadily building up its customer base it was approached by Coles to supply to 10 of its retail outlets. Today Garlos Pies are available in in more then 1000 Australian Pubs, Clubs, Schools and supermarkets including Woolworths, Coles, and IGA, it also exports overseas and has contracts to supply Qantas, Emirates, Etihad and Malaysian Airlines.

“For expats living overseas they love the taste of an authentic Aussie pie”, Garlick said.

In 2015 the Garlo’s factory in St Peters was acquired to make way for the West Connex project. Just over a year later a new $15million factory was opened at Kingsgrove along with a head office and café. The impressive new plant spans 4500sqm and employees 70 people with a capacity to produce 35000 pies per day to meet the requirement for superior grade Hygiene & Safety at the 4500asqm site.

We are delighted with receiving a high quality Food Grade floor from Roxset, our past experience resulted in very costly production down time from poor quality flooring which we now plan for as a critical infrastructure item”. Sean Garlick, Managing Director.

Problem

The client wanted a solution, which was in no way ‘under specified’, having previous experience with the expense of ongoing flooring failures, which had proved extremely costly to the business in production downtime.

Solution

A tailored Roxset SE coating solution was laid at 4-6mm, with 75mm of coving and falls to drains to create a seamless, easy to clean finish in 4 distinctive colours, Bluebell for Production, Apricot for Wrapping Area, Light Grey for Packaging and Dark Grey for Dry Storage, it will maintain an impervious, gap free coating despite the busy onsite operating conditions including Fork Lift, Trolley etc that are inherent in producing fresh product 24×7.

The new light reflective/colour matching finish will provide the site with an aesthetically pleasing surface able to withstand the inevitable impacts of, traffic, spillages and the constant cleaning it is subjected to.

A key factor behind Garlo Pies choice of flooring was that ROXSET is HACCP BRC AQIS Certified it is skilled in delivering bespoke systems to Food Manufacturers, reducing the risk of food contamination in an intensive food environment. The project was completed on time and ROXSET SE2 was more then up to the job. The client is pleased with the brand new highly functional, durable and sanitary slip resistant flooring system.
